The Avalanche Effect & Hash Function Design

Manuscript In Progress

Course Overview

A well-constructed cryptographic primitive behaves as a labyrinth: flipping one input bit cascades through the internal state until roughly half the output bits change — the avalanche effect. This tome examines the diffusion-and-confusion machinery of modern block ciphers and hash functions, with particular attention to the design choices that produce statistical unpredictability from purely deterministic operations.
